What Happened To Your Bright Smile?
If you are interested in teeth whitening, then we are going to go out on a limb and guess that you have noticed the stains on your teeth.
Eggnog isn’t helping, but it’s probably not the biggest reason your teeth having become yellower over the years. Every sip of morning coffee, afternoon tea, and soft drinks or wine with dinner has contributed to the stains on your smile. Every bite of pizza, pasta, and pie has added a little something as well.
This change occurs gradually, but it is also a natural part of getting older. Unless you stop eating and drinking anything (which we do NOT recommend), your teeth will become more and more stained with time.
Most people don’t notice the small changes from day to day, week to week, or even month to month. It’s only after years that you look in the mirror or look at a photograph and realize that your teeth are not as white as they once were — and definitely not as white as you want them to be.
The good news is that these stains can be removed, and there’s no better way to do that then with professional teeth whitening.
Professional Whitening Makes Brighter Smiles
You can try whitening toothpaste. You can try the whitening strips or gels from the store.
Then you may do what so many other patients have done. You can make an appointment at Dr. Feder’s office because your teeth still aren’t as white and bright as you were hoping.
Can commercial whitening products help? Yes, to a degree, but they aren’t as powerful as professional whitening products.
Whitening toothpaste does not contain bleaching agents, which means it may be able to help with some surface stains. Just keep in mind that you are likely to continue eating and drinking on the days that your use whitening toothpaste. It may slow the staining rather than stopping it.
Whitening strips and gels do have bleaching agents. In fact, they are same the bleaching agents — in much, much lower concentrations — that are used in professional whitening products.
In that regard, removing stains could be seen as similar to putting out a fire. Your garden hose and a fire hose both use the same thing (water) to douse the flames, but only one of them is going to do the job quickly and efficiently.
The Best Way To Brighten Your Smile
By coming to our office for teeth whitening, you will receive the benefits of professional care with the convenience of take-home treatments.
One of our dental professionals will examine your teeth to determine if you are a good candidate for whitening. Assuming you are, the first step is making an impression of your teeth. This will allow us to create custom-fitted whitening trays just for you.
When your trays are ready, we will provide you with professional whitening gel. The custom-fitted trays help to keep the whitening gel where it should be to provide the most benefit for you.
You will need to wear the trays with the gel as directed (about an hour per day). In a matter of weeks, you should see a dramatic improvement in the color of your smile.
Many patients also choose to receive tooth bonding when they have completed their whitening treatments. Bonding is a way to repair small chips or cracks in your teeth so they look whole again.
Together, teeth whitening and bonding can make the improvement to your smile even more noticeable.
Give Yourself A Brighter Smile This Christmas
We want you to have plenty of reasons to smile this holiday season. Having a whiter smile could be one of them.
